WESTERN ISLES DISABILITY SPORT
WIDS was formed to provide
sports and recreation to the disabled throughout the whole
of the Western Isles irrespective of age or level of
disability. We were formed in March 2001
The main branch is in Stornoway where the Charity
Headquarters is based. We also have two sub
branches. One is in Barra the southern
most Island in the group and it has a thriving group
who meet at least once a week for activities like Boccia & New Age Kurling. The second branch
is in South Uist and their main activity is swimming.

We are a non profit
making charity, we have no paid employees, all
officers and committee members are volunteers.
Our regular activity is held each Thursday and
consists in the sole use of a hydrotherapy pool,
a gymnasium adapted to meet the needs of people
with disabilities and a recreation room.

Here we put on a selection
of activities including, New Age Kurling, which
is popular with a great majority of our members,
Boccia, Goal Ball, Skittles, Polybat and Super Foam
Croquet just to mention a few.
In our short history. We
are proud to have achieved success in National Competitions
and look forward to the regular Inter Island competitions.
We also want to throw down the gauntlet to any other organisation
who would like to compete, either here or an agreed venue.
Everyone is welcome age,
ability or disability, is not a issue. Our challenge is
to provide sport and recreation for all, our members challenge
is to enjoy it.
