MISSION STATEMENT
The African & Caribbean Network (A &C N) is a voluntary sector organisation, which acts as the umbrella and coordinating body for the African & Caribbean communities in Glasgow.
“The African & Caribbean Network strives to promote the inclusion of African & Caribbean residents as equal and valued members of their communities, alleviate and eradicate discrimination through
raising awareness of the issues, facilitating a joint working approach, influencing policy and provision at all levels and empowering African & Caribbean people to contribute to these processes.
Aims & Objectives – Information & Education
Specific Aim
To raise awareness and understanding of the interests and needs of African & Caribbean people affected by exclusion and discrimination in Glasgow.
Objectives
To educate and inform the widest range of service providers, policy makers and the public.
To encourage, support and facilitate constructive debate about the inclusion and discrimination of African & Caribbean people in Glasgow.
To encourage increased awareness of the ‘black element’ in the BME agendas at local, regional and national levels.
Aims & Objectives - Involving African & Caribbean People
Specific Aim
To promote the involvement of African & Caribbean people in the development of policy, provision and practice.
Objectives
To support and encourage agencies and planners to involve African & Caribbean people .
To support African & Caribbean user led & community organisations.
To enhance the capacity of African & Caribbean people affected by exclusion and discrimination to articulate their needs,
To work in partnership with African & Caribbean people affected by exclusion and discrimination to develop appropriate, innovative and empowering models of involvement.
To work to maximise empowerment and choice of African & Caribbean people affected by exclusion and discrimination at the individual and collective levels.
Aims & Objectives – Joint Working
Specific Aim
To promote and facilitate joint-working and inter agency co-operation to meet the needs of African Caribbean people in Glasgow.
Objectives
To facilitate information exchange about organisations and services.
To encourage and facilitate links between agencies and organisations.
To provide focussed networking opportunities.
To support the development of joint and partnership working.
To pursue and develop links with organisations across all communities.

Specific Aim
To influence policy at all levels in the interests of African Caribbean people in Glasgow.
Objectives
To evaluate current policy and assess its impact on African & Caribbean people in Glasgow with especial reference to their inclusion and addressing discrimination.
To respond to policy proposals on behalf of and with the African Caribbean Network.
To participate in and contribute to the development of BME and wider inclusion strategies.
To contribute to the wider policy environment at local, regional and national levels.
Aims & Objectives – Practice
Specific Aim
To encourage and support providers to jointly plan and target services to meet need effectively.
Objectives
To promote good practice and demonstrate quality standards in planning services for African & Caribbean people in Glasgow.
To promote good practice and demonstrate quality standards in delivery of services to African & Caribbean people in Glasgow.
To promote the use of monitoring and evaluation, and to inform on appropriate systems which supports this for providers and planners.
To promote and support anti – discriminatory and anti- appressive practice in all services engaging with people of African & Caribbean origin.

Specific Aim
To support a co-ordinated approach to the inclusion of African & Caribbean people in Glasgow’s communities.
Objectives
To encourage and support participation in the network.
To consult with the African & Caribbean Network and feedback to members.
To act as the African & Caribbean voluntary and community sector umbrella organisation.
To represent the views of the African & Caribbean Network.
To promote Network agreed approaches and common understanding within a diverse network.
